Family law fees are typically billed at an hourly rate, except for the initial consultation.
Consultation: $250
Representation: $275/hour
All of my client relationships begin with a consultation. During the consultation, clients receive legal advice tailored for their particular situation and goals. Consultations tend to last over an hour.
Other Options:
One-Time Advice: One-time advice is provided as a consultation. This may be appropriate for clients defending a complaint for contempt for failure to abide by a separation agreement or pay child support, or for those who already have a separation agreement and wish to understand their rights before they sign.
Limited Assistance Representation: For those who do not wish to have an attorney appear in court for them, legal advice is available at an hourly rate. This may be appropriate for a spouse in the process of negotiating a separation agreement, for a parent who wants to enforce a parenting plan or child support, or for someone interested in filing a joint petition for divorce.
“DIY” Divorce for uncontested divorces: $1,400. For those situations where a couple wishes to divorce and agrees on most issues, I provide guidance through the uncontested divorce process. Assistance under this “DIY” option includes a consultation with one of the parties, drafting all the necessary paperwork, and revising the Separation Agreement. The client files the paperwork and appears in court without an attorney. This is a great option for many couples who wish to save money but want an experienced attorney to review their Agreement before it becomes final. See my blog post: DIY Divorce: Is it Right for You?
